Bremont Alt1-z Watch Collection Review

Bremont Alt1-z: History

Bremont watch company is a British company that delivers superb quality products. Their quality control standards can easily compare with other great British giants such as Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Range Rover, Rolex, Aston Martin, and even Bentley. All of these companies are iconic companies that pride themselves in state of the art luxury items, built for style and comfort. Bremont has surely earned its spot in this list with their innovative, top quality, style, and durable range of watches.

Two brothers Giles and Nick English established Bremont watches in 2002. In memory of their father, Dr. Eduane English, who lost his life in 1995 when their vintage Harvard aircraft crashed during a training flight in preparation for an airshow. Nick was also involved in this plane crash, but he was fortunate enough to survive. The brothers learned most of what they needed for the design and creation of these watches by helping their father in his workshop while growing up. Some of the works done in Dr. Eduanes’s workshop included airplane and yacht construction, so you can see where the love of timekeeping and aviation collided. The idea of the Bremont watch company was conceived.

How they came up with the name Bremont is just as interesting story once again, including a plane in distress. While flying over France, the English brothers encountered a terrifying storm, which forced them to look for a place to look for a safe place to make an emergency landing. As fate would have it, they found a farm that seemed to be a safe spot to execute an emergency landing. Unbeknownst to them, this piece of land belonged to the aviation enthusiast and veteran pilot Antoine Bremont, who also happened to be a watch enthusiast. After seeing the kindness of this man, the brothers decided that they would like to eternalize this man by using his surname for their company. This action proves that a little kindness can certainly go a long way.

Even though they established the company in 2002, it was only in 2007 that Bremont started producing watches. At first, a lot of manufacturing happened in Switzerland. Still, the company has been working hard at improving the skills of engineers from various backgrounds to be able to work with the precision necessary to be able to keep this brand’s level of quality. The aim of this was to be able to do most of the manufacturing in Britain, but this job requires machining to the precision of 5 microns, which is not a skill not commonly available and needed to be taught. Their head office is in Oxfordshire, England, that currently employs roughly 30 people, with a new addition, a state of the art production factory in its construction phase. At the moment, their production capabilities are about 8,000-10,000 watches per year, which adds to the value and exclusivity of each watches created.

Bremont watches do not only cater to the commercial, end-user market; they also have special limited edition ranges that are exclusively available to customers that meet certain, very specific criteria to qualify for the purchase of these specific products. These ranges are usually for the armed forces or veterans, and depending on the model, you have to have flown the subject aircraft or have served in the commemorated military unit. There is even one case where you had to have served on a very specific warship. These models might have their inspiration in their commercial counterparts but are distinctly different, to give these everyday superheroes something that is so unique and rewards their efforts in our service. What a noble thing to do, thank you Bremont for remembering these men and woman that so easily gets forgotten by society.

Bremont Alt1-z: Award-winning Products

All of this information is nice to know, but is it factual? Is there anything that backs up these claims to quality and design? The simple answer is, of course, in the short period that this company has been manufacturing watches, they have won numerous prestigious awards. In 2008 merely one year after watch production started, they won an award at the Walpole British Luxury Awards in the category Best Emerging British luxury brand. In 2011 Bremont won an award at the UK Jewellery Awards in the category Watch Brand of the Year. 2012 was a busy year for Bremont, where they raked in no less than four awards. The first they won at the Luxury Briefing Awards, in the category Breakthrough Brand, they continued their winning streak when they won the people’s choice award at the couture 2012 watch and jewelry show in Las Vegas. If that was not enough, they won the luxury watch of the year award 2012 Watch Pro Awards, and to finish it all off, they won an award at the 2012 Jewellery awards in the category luxury watch brand of the year. 2013 was no different. They were announced as the HSBC Global connections winner. They also received two rewards awards at the UK Retail Jewellery Awards, the first in the category store design of the year and the second for luxury watch brand of the year. Following immense growth, they became eligible for other awards, and in 2019 they won the Large Business of the year award at the South and Vale business awards, and they also won the British watch company of the year award at the 2019 WatchPro awards. This article is not bragging, because it's not bragging if you can back it up.

About the Alt1-z Collection

Bremont is one of the worlds leading watch manufacturers that are known for their innovative designs and durable quality. Through the years, they have grown to be the favorite choice of aviators and jet setters alike, and this is not surprising as some of the most memorable aircraft inspire their designs. This collection is no different, as this time, they drew their inspiration from a famous airplane called the Concorde. Just like its supersonic muse of the air, the Bremont Alt1-z collection is leagues ahead of its time. Alt1-z collection is made with top quality hardened stainless steel and treated to be scratch resistant. It also boasts of a domed anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal face. The same meticulous quality control is put into designing and making each watch, as would be done when building an airplane.

The z in Alt1-z is an abbreviation of the word Zulu which replaced GMT in the early 1970s. Zulu is a standardized timezone that is most commonly used in the military, aviation, and maritime industries to synchronize time during operations that span across multiple timelines. Whether you are a jet setter, pilot, or trendsetter, this watch will increase your social stature significantly. The other impressive design element on this watch is the open-back design, which allows you to see the most intimate workings of this watch. This feature also speaks to the quality work that goes into making each one of these watches, as they don’t feel the need to hide anything behind covers. This open-back design consists of a stainless steel ring with a flat center crystal, allowing you to see every little movement of the gears.

Bremont Alt1-z: Design

Alt1-z comes with a three-layer design, which Bremont refers to as their Trip-tick design. The first being the top layer, which houses the dome crystal screen, made out of hardened stainless steel. The middle with its black coating, which houses the two crowns one on the left for GMT adjust and one on the right for changing the date and time, it also houses the two buttons for controlling the chronograph. Lastly, it has a stainless steel back cover, which they finished with a beautiful flat crystal display window for all the “how things work” fans. Every element of this watch speaks about the workmanship put into each watch. Even the treated damage resistant calfskin leather strap has detailed, durable stitching that oozes with style, this is topped up with a unique and exciting clasp all finely branded by the Bremont logo. You can, however, change the standard leather strap for a stainless steel bracelet on all the Alt1-z models

What will a military-style watch be if it did not have all the bells and whistles? The Alt1-z collection certainly delivers when it comes to value-added features. Firstly you have the 24-hour chronograph, and you also have your Zulu/GMT function. The internal, bi-directional bezel helps you to be able to set the watch for three different time zones, one of the key features that make this watch the 1st choice for aviators worldwide. Bremont also fitted the dials with a glow in the dark strip so that you can read the time at any time of day or night. These watches also have a waterproof exterior, which allows you to enter the water and comfortably swim to a depth of 100m without compromising the functionality of the watch.
