Grand Seiko SBGH252 Watch Review

Grand Seiko has been in the watchmaking industry for decades. The first watch introduced by the brand was created 1969. Since then, they have continued creating some of the world's most sophisticated and well-crafted watches. Initially, Grand Seiko was only famous in Japan, but as time went by they expanded their market worldwide. Today, they are one of the most well-known watch brands in the world.

Grand Seiko utilizes traditional practices to create stunning timepieces. Every Grand Seiko watchmaker is taught about the art of sword polishing, known as "Togashi" in Japanese. Grand Seiko has added a modern twist to the art of Togashi by using machinery polishing, known as "Zarustu,” as part of their watchmaking process. The stunning beauty displayed by every Grand Seiko watch is the work of such craftsmanship and traditional polishing techniques. This hard work is displayed in their 2017 Grand Seiko SBGH252 model.

Grand Seiko SBGH252

The Grand Seiko SBGH252 is one of Grand Seiko's rarest watches. Although Grand Seiko stands by simplicity and purity, the Grand Seiko SBGH252 is one of their more unique products as it is made up of both stainless steel and 18k yellow gold.

For Grand Seiko, precision is one of the most important aspects of watchmaking, and the Grand Seiko SBGH252 provides wearers with nothing but precision when it comes to time and date. It is also elegant and easy to use.

Appearance

The exterior of the Grand Seiko SBGH252 is made of luxurious materials and exemplifies perfect craftsmanship. The watch has a case that is made of both stainless steel and gold with an 18k gold bezel.

Through the use of two strong metals, this timepiece is remarkably strong and rustproof. The case diameter is 40mm and has a thickness of 13mm, while the perimeter of the band is 195mm with a three-fold clasp and push-button release. Having a larger band allows every user to feel comfortable while wearing the watch as it will not be too tight or loose.

The Grand Seiko SBGH252 is made of dual-curved sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, allowing for less eye strain when looking at the watch.

Movement

The Grand Seiko SBGH252 is caliber 9S85, which makes the watch highly resistant to disturbance, causing fewer fluctuations with the accuracy of the watch when worn. The watch is automatic and has a manual winding capacity with a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. When static, the watch can have an accuracy of either +5 or -3 seconds per day. When worn daily and not kept under controlled conditions, the accuracy is +10 to -1 seconds per day.

Magnetic and Water Resistance

Strong magnetic fields are all around us, such as those released from kitchen appliances and smartphones. These magnetic fields can interfere with the inner workings of a watch, such as its balance spring; thus, Grand Seiko has equipped their SBGH252 with magnetic resistance, allowing the watch to function smoothly. The watch is also water-resistant up to 10 bar, meaning it can be worn even when swimming.

Other Features

The Grand Seiko SBGH252 has 37 embedded jewels, and to further add to the luxury the case back features Grand Seiko’s signature lion emblem. Like most Grand Seiko watches, the SBGH252 has a screw-down crown and a screw case back with an engraved serial number.

Conclusion

Every watch enthusiast dreams of owning a Grand Seiko watch, as it portrays nothing but superior craftsmanship and innovative watchmaking techniques that catch everyone’s eye.
