Buben & Zorweg History 

Buben & Zorweg was founded in 1995, and has solidified themselves as the premier name in watch winders, safes, and storage. Combining German engineering, fine craftsmanship, and exquisite designs, Buben & Zorweg manufacturers functional objects of art that help collectors safely display, maintain, and store their timepieces.

Harald Buben and Christian Zorweg started as childhood friends, and then began their business while in university, starting by crafting high-end watch and jewelry cases in 1995. In 1998 they developed their first watch winder, The Classic, in collaboration with Elma, a German company famous for making devices used in watchmaking testing. In 2001, they developed their patented Time Mover technology. This technology allows users to control the winding of their timepieces. Owners can custom program the winder to optimally wind their timepieces, control if it winds in both directions, when it switches directions, or if it rotates in one direction for timepieces that have unidirectional winding. Buben & Zorweg’s winders have also been tested to endure 30 years of usage without service, giving owners many years to enjoy both their winder and their wound timepieces that are ready to be worn.

In 2003, designer Eberhard Hagmann joined the company as the brand’s Creative Director, signaling the brand’s trajectory of growth and collaborating strategically with key personnel. 2005 marked the addition of Daniel Zorweg, Christian’s brother, as a shareholder in the company. Buben and & Zorweg also released their first Object of Time, a watch winder that also featured a mechanical high precision clock. The following year, the brand created their first high-security safe, combining a watch winder, high-precision clock, and security system, to create a multi-sensory experience for collectors. Buben & Zorweg safes are some of the most secure watch safes available, certified by Europe’s largest independent security institute, VDS. Utilizing multi-layer stainless steel constructions, high-security locking mechanisms with multiple electrical and mechanical redundancies. 

Buben & Zorweg have continued a trajectory of growth, collaborating with other brands such as Jacob & Co and Bugatti to create exclusive products for their clients. They have also built new manufacturing facilities, and added new partners, including the appointment of Florian vom Bruch as CEO and Marin Ziringer as CFO in 2019.

Each model is designed to keep your timepieces safe, as they are installed by an expert team taking into consideration the location in which the safe is installed, a number of security redundancies including both electronic and mechanical locks, and constructed with multi-layer walls and doors to prevent forced entry. They also offer inbuilt solutions, allowing for the safes to be built into a wall, offering clients custom-tailored safes that best meet their needs. The models in this collection include the Solitaire, Vision, Orion, Turbo, Grande Infinity, Grande Illusion, Galaxy, Collector, and Private Museum. Depending on the model, there are different sizes, customization options, and both stand-alone and inbuilt options to best fit your needs. 

Accessories

Within the Accessories collection, Buben & Zorweg manufactures a collection of exclusive cases for storing, and traveling, with your watches. The models within this collection are the Neo Case, Vantage Case, Nitro Case, Traveller Case, and Roma Case, with different options available to accommodate different sizes and features. 

B&Z Bespoke Manufaktur

The Bespoke Manufaktur collection is the home for custom projects completed by the brand. Often showcasing elaborate custom creations, there are also limited editions completed in collaboration with other brands, including the Digital Pioneer done in collaboration with Alexander M., the founder of “The Good Life Inc.”

B&Z for Bugatti

In 2020, Buben & Zorweg began their collaboration with Bugatti Automobiles, to develop exclusive designs inspired by the luxury automotive brand. This collection includes the Hyper Safe Collection, the Chiron Grande Illusion, and the Chiron Spirit winder.

With a great deal of Buben & Zorweg’s product offering being custom built, especially for their safes, prices are quoted on request depending on the needs of the client. Most of their watch winders are customizable, but many are available for immediate or on order with a short lead time. The Buben & Zorweg SAFE MASTER 2 in black leather starts at $3,070, and the Quantum 16 winder with lacquer exterior finish is priced at $45,500. Many of their winders are between $6,000-$20,000, depending on size, finish options, and other features such as built-in high-accuracy mechanical clocks.
