The Swiss brand, founded in 2010 with an in-house Manufacture based in Le Locle (Switzerland), is now expanding the range with its models “Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue” and “Klepcys GMT Palm Green”. Featuring a more contemporary look in which colour plays a starring role, they are produced in a double limited edition of just 38 pieces per version.
As always, we find the hallmark tenets of CYRUS Genève watches: the cushion-shaped case with elongated lugs (Ø 42mm x 13.9 mm in thickness) and a polished/satin finish, the twin functional crowns set at 3 and 9, and the three-dimensional openworked dial revealing its reliable mechanics. A style which, as always, is distinctly “unconventional”.
he case comprises 26 elements, and the shape has been conceived to wrap comfortably around the wrist . Made of grade 5 titanium, it has an almost imperceptible weight due to the lightness of the material.
The logo-engraved crowns are finished with a grey caoutchouc rubber ring. The latter is decorated with small embossed squares that facilitate the grip of the crown at 3 o'clock when winding the movement and setting the time. The crown at 9 has a push-button which moves the hand of the local time forward by one hour each time it is pressed.
The dial boasts the same layout as the first edition, but features a more daring look in which colour takes centre stage. This element is turned into an “animated being” thanks to the original design of the calibre’s upper bridge. Crafted in the shape of a palm tree, it can also be interpreted as a fan or peacock tail, and emphasises the action of the movement’s spring, wheels and gears.
With ALD coating in Ocean Blue and Palm Green (Atomic Layer Deposition - a vacuum atomic layer deposition technique that generates a perfectly uniform and homogeneous coating, as well as providing superior protection against corrosion), it features cerclage decorative motifs with microbillé edging, alternating with opaque laser-finished matt flat rays. Both shades create a pleasant visual contrast with the 4N gold-plated gears.
Time is read off in the conventional manner. The luminescent hour and minute hands in the centre of the dial show the time on an anti-reflective sapphire crystal disc. This approach has been designed to allow an unhindered view of the many elements of the display. The anthracite grey minute flange has indices on a scale of 5 treated with SuperLumiNova.
The star of the “Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue & Palm Green”, namely the 24-hour Dual Time Zone complication is set in the centre of the watch face on a matt, opaline-grey arch edged in anthracite grey. The triangular-tipped retrograde hand indicates the home time thanks to luminescent even Arabic numerals mixed with dots.
The arch is interrupted at 6 o’clock to make room for the small seconds. This subdial is embellished in the centre with the traditional triangle motif. The exclusive helix-shaped hand recalling the CYRUS logo is in the same hues as the upper bridges with a luminescent end that glows in the dark.
In spite of the many elements that make up the dial, the skilled use of colour, the decorative features and the just-right proportions, contribute to providing immediate legibility of all functions. A stylistic exercise conceived down to the finest detail for the “Klepcys GMT Ocean Blue” and “Klepcys GMT Palm Green” versions which are powered by an exceptional in-house manufacture mechanical movement.
Both timepieces are fitted with the automatic CYR708 Manufacture calibre beating at 28.800 vibrations per hour, with variable inertia balance wheel (the 2020 models carry an annular balance wheel), and offers 55-hour power reserve, provided by a single winding barrel. The decoration of the bridges is refined, with hand-finished edges using the anglage technique. The NAC-treated surface is embellished with embossed rays with a brushed finish alternating with microbeaded flat rays. The combination of all these exquisite finishes contributes to pleasant lighting effects.
The openworked single-block oscillating mass with soleil decoration sports a new look, and has been adorned with the Maison’s logo and the engraved motto “The Conquest of Innovation. The more traditional, conservative anthracite grey has been cast aside; the rotor is ALD-coated in Ocean Blue or Palm Green, the same colours featured on the dial.
