Garrick S3 MK2 Steel with Rhodium Dial – GPHG Finalist, Handcrafted in Norfolk
The Garrick S3 MK2 represents British haute horlogerie at its finest: an openworked dial revealing the hand-finished Calibre UT-G04 movement, developed entirely in-house by watchmakers David Brailsford and Simon Michlmayr in their Norfolk workshop. This is watchmaking for purists who value craft over brand recognition.
The British Watchmaking Revival
Founded in 2014, Garrick honors Britain's 18th-century watchmaking legacy—when innovators like John Harrison and Thomas Mudge made England the horological center of the world. The S3 MK2 earned GPHG Finalist status in 2024, competing against Swiss giants with a fraction of their resources.
What sets this watch apart: a Trinity free-sprung balance made from Sircumet (Garrick's proprietary non-magnetic alloy), positioned front-of-house so you can watch it oscillate. Unlike index-adjusted balances found in most watches, the free-sprung design maintains rate consistency longer and breathes more concentrically—superior precision that requires significantly more hand-regulation time.
The movement features black polishing on bridges (requiring tin plates and diamantine paste for mirror finishes), hand-frosted rhodium plating, and chatons—finishing techniques typically reserved for six-figure Swiss pieces. Production is limited to approximately 5 pieces annually with a 24-month build time.
Who This Watch Is For
If you're drawn to independent watchmakers who prioritize craft over marketing budgets, or you appreciate mechanical transparency (literally—the openworked dial hides nothing), the S3 MK2 delivers substance. This isn't a watch for casual wrists; it's for collectors who understand why in-house movement development and hand-finishing matter.
