Design Inspiration
Following up on the enduring appeal of the 47-mm versions, Jacob & Co. went on to create a 44-mm Epic X Chrono. This alternative case size makes it a universally wearable, definitely unisex format. The inspiration of the design came from the letter X which symbolizes something unknown, mysterious and appealing which was the energy of the brand at the time of the model's creation.
Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax is the high function version of Epic X with an extra dose of elegance. Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax retains all the core elements of its namesake collection, and takes them all one level higher. A level that the chronograph perfectly represents.
The crown guards, the pusher protectors, the X shape that runs from the lugs through the dial, the skeleton parts, they all embody the transformation of Epic X into a 3-counter sports chronograph with a sense of material exclusivity and a refined state of mind.
The development process
Epic X Chrono 44MM Tri-Compax requires a movement that brings all the energy of Epic X and takes it up one notch. Caliber JCAA12 is a self-winding chronograph with three registers, a configuration called tri-Compax. The classic movement architecture, with horizontal clutch, column wheel and two pushers is interpreted in a sporty fashion.
The case is engineered to shield every protruding part. The crown, the pushers, the countdown crown are all inserted in pieces that come out of the case's round shape. Both pusher guards are echoed on the other side of the case for perfect symmetry. This ruggedness is further enhanced by the case's water-resistance to 200 meters.
The complications & features
Caliber JCAA12 is all a chronograph can be. Functional, luxurious, refined, finely finished, it bears the signature design elements of Jacob & Co. and of the Epic X collection.
The chronograph
The pusher at 2 o'clock starts and stops the timing function. This sequence can be activated at will, with no necessary end. Elapsed time is shown with the central seconds hand and the 30-minute register at 3 o'clock and 12-hour register at 6 o'clock on the dial. Once the timing sequence is over, the 4 o'clock pusher resets all the hands. Epic X 44MM Tri-Compax is ready for the next timing.
