Despite being founded in 1889, Doxa is best known to watch collectors for an overbuilt dive watch with a bright orange dial. Water resistant to 300 meters of depth and with a unique bezel to help calculate ascension times, Doxa’s bold styling was purpose-driven and utilitarian-focused.

Originally released in 1967, the Doxa 300 went on to be a very successful model for the brand. Updated in the spirit of the original model, the 300T is an overbuilt dive watch with a variety of options to fit those looking for a tool-focused dive watch and those looking to add some variety to their current collection.

About Doxa Sub 300T Watches

The Doxa Sub 300T, along with the Sub 300 is the most iconic model for the brand and was the first publicly available dive watch with a helium release valve. While the originals were rated to 300 meters, the modern Doxa Sub 300T is rated to 1200 meters of water resistance, making it substantially more robust than the original.

The 42.5mm stainless steel case design stays true to the original, with modern updates that include sapphire crystals covering the dial, folding clasps with ratcheting dive extensions, and the option of color-matched rubber straps.

Doxa Sub 300T History

Founded in 1889, Doxa started working on their first dive watch in the late 1960’s. In 1968, the Doxa Sub 300T was released, which featured the now famous orange dial and iconic Doxa dive timing bezel. The bezel features the air timing table for no compression dives, allowing divers to more accurately time their ascension to the surface.

Doxa also chose to use the now distinctive shade of bright orange, as it was deemed to be the most legible under deeper depths where there is significantly less light. The Quartz Crisis put Doxa in the same position as many other brands, forcing the brand and the 300T to fade away for several years. Regardless, the 300T gained an ardent fan base, and the brand was resurrected in 1997 and started releasing watches again in 2002.

The modern Doxa Sub 300T was released in September 2019. Available in seven different colors, the model maintains the original case design but with updates that bring the watch up to modern standards of fit, finish, and durability.

How Much Do Doxa Sub 300T Watches Cost?

With each model within the Doxa Sub 300T range being largely the same except for dial color, the price range is quite narrow, starting at $1,950 for the watch on a rubber strap to $1,990 for the watch on a beads of rice bracelet. The dial options available include Shakrhunter (black), Professional (orange), Caribbean (blue), Divingstar (yellow), Searambler (silver), Whitepearl (white) and Aquamarine (turquoise).

The models on the bracelet include a ratcheting dive extension in the clasp. The rubber strap models include a deployant buckle with a ratcheting dive extension. The good thing about these options and small price difference is that deciding which model to choose is based on personal preference and less on the associated cost. There is the special Clive Cussler edition, which is substantially more due to the finishing techniques utilized on the watch. Below is a breakdown of various options and configurations.

What’s Unique About Doxa Sub 300T Watches?

The Doxa Sub 300T gained its cult following mostly because of the cushion case shape, bright orange dial, and unique bezel. The bezel markings are used to calculate ascension times for non-compression dives, assisting divers to make certain they do not get the bends while returning to the surface (a phenomenon that occurs when divers return from the great depths of the ocean to the surface too quickly).

While the original Doxa Sub 300T watches were rated at 300 meters, the modern ones are rated to 1200 meters, making them a great order of magnitude more durable than the vintage models. The addition of a variety of dial options makes it possible to have a Doxa Sub 300T to suit almost every taste, from those who crave bold and bright. The Doxa Sub 300T measures 42.5mm wide by 44.5mm lug-to-lug and 13.65mm in thickness.

Doxa Sub 300T Movements

Inside all Doxa Sub 300T watches are the Sellita SW200-1, an automatic winding 3-hand mechanical movement with a date, hacking, and hand-winding functions. The movement has a 38-hour power reserve and beats at 28,800 bph. The movement includes some decorations done by Doxa.

Doxa Sub 300T Watch Colors

The Doxa Sub 300T collection utilizes the Professional (orange), Searambler (silver), Sharkhunter (black), Caribbean (navy blue), Divingstar (yellow), Whitepearl (white), and Aquamarine (turquoise blue) dial variations.

The Professional, Searambler, Sharkhunter, and Caribbean dials feature black and orange bezel markings, while the Divingstar, Aquamarine, and Whitepearl feature bezel markings to match the dial. The Clive Cussler model features a sand-colored textured dial with black and orange bezel markings.

Doxa Sub 300T Watch Materials

The Doxa Sub 300T stays with traditional materials for a dive watch, with the case, case back, bezel, and beads of rice bracelet being made of stainless steel. Should you opt for one of the strap options, the straps are made of rubber and come with stainless steel deployant clasps. The crystal covering the dial is made of sapphire, offering the scratch-resistant durability expected from a modern dive watch.

What is the difference between sub 300 and SUB 300T?

The Sub 300 continues more of the vintage cues of the original Doxa Sub 300 dive watches, including a domed sapphire crystal to mimic the vintage plexiglass crystals, a thinner case, and bracelet, and lacks the helium release valve of the Sub 300T.
