About Konstantin Chaykin

While the Swiss have the most notoriety in the world of high-end watchmaking, more experienced watch enthusiasts will be familiar with the established history of German, English, Japanese, and American watch making. While these locations may have a storied history of celebrated manufactures and consumers, watchmaking is not exclusive to these locations, as there are celebrated watchmakers all over the globe. As society increases their global awareness, so do watch enthusiasts and their knowledge of high-end watchmakers worldwide. Largely credited with bringing contemporary high-end watchmaking to Russia, Konstantin Chayken’s highly creative, innovative, and beautifully finished timepieces have won the admiration of watch collectors all over the world for their ability to combine traditional artisanship with a sense of light heartedness that make them ideal for collectors looking for haute-horology without austere pretension.

Konstantin Chaykin History

In October of 2003, Konstantin Chaykin began work on a table clock with a tourbillon, which is considered the foundation of Konstantin Chaykin manufacture. Most of his early work was focused on developing clocks, including complex calendars that are able to accurately track Orthodox Easter, and the Islamic calendar. In 2008, he began working on a wrist watch that could accurately track the Jewish calendar, and developed the K.01 movement, which would serve as the base movement for his wristwatch calibers. That same year, he was accepted as a candidate of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants, making him the first Russian watchmaker accepted into the AHCI.

In 2010, Konstantin Chaykin released the first Decalogue collection, while continuing his clock development. The Lunokhod collection was released in 2011, featuring the world’s largest 3D moon phase display. The Mystery collection followed in 2012, and he moved his production from St. Petersburg to Moscow, along with unveiling an updated logo. In 2013, Chaykin released The Cinema watch, a timepiece that features a zoopraxiscope mechanism within the watch. 2017 saw the release of the first Joker watch, a unique piece developed for the Only Watch auction that year. This watch would go on to become Konstantin Chaykin’s most recognized timepiece. Continuing to develop unique timepieces (both clocks and wristwatches), along with complex mechanisms, Konstantin Chaykin has registered 96 patents and 62 utility models as of July 2024, more than any other watchmaker currently in the industry.

Konstantin Chaykin Collections

While Konstantin Chaykin has released a number of unique models, the manufacturer's catalog is organized within the following collections, each focused on a binding theme.

Wristmons

The Wristmons collection houses Konstantin Chaykin’s most famous models, primarily The Joker and its variations. The defining characteristic is the separated hours and minutes display that resemble eyes, and a moonphase indication at the bottom of the dial for the mouth. Numerous iterations have been made, including Minions, Panda, Zebra, Santa, and many others, including special editions of well known characters. Konstantin Chaykin’s most complicated watch, the Stargazer, also uses this general format, as does the latest thinnest watch in the world (which forgoes the moon phase display). While many of these appear fun and whimsical, the watchmaking is of the highest standard, bringing a welcome sense of levity to haute-horology.

Space Programm

Taking inspiration from the extraterrestrial, the Space Programm series of watches features a complex calendar, Konstantin Chaykin’s large moon phase display, and watches that accurately track the passage of time on Mars. The Stargazer overlaps with the Wristmons collection, but fits in with the Space Programm collection with it’s ability to track solar and lunar cycles, along with an equation of time, Zodiac cycles, Northern Hemisphere celestial map, sunrise and sunset indications. The Mars Conqueror models are complicated dual time watches, able to track the time on earth in addition to the time on Mars, making them mechanical watches ready for when man conquers manned flights to Mars. Finally, the Lunokhod models feature the largest 3D moon phase display developed for a wrist watch, along with a unique hour display that portrays day and night indications.

Classic Watches

While these watches are deemed to be classic in appearance, that is only relative to Konstantin Chaykin’s other creations. While these timepieces feature more conventional designs and time displays, they feature unique designs and complications that make them unique. The Decalogue models feature complex calendar functions, each with the ability to track various religious and traditional calendars that vary from the Gregorian calendar. The Cinema model features a zoopraxiscope, an early development in displaying an animated image. The Levitas models feature a mystery dial using sapphire discs, making the display behind the hours and minutes hands transparent, making them appear as if they’re floating.

Interior Clocks

High end clocks is where Konstantin Chaykin made his name for himself in horology early in his career. Continuing with his expertise in clockmaking, he continues to offer a number of models, including tourbillon clocks (where the effects of gravity on the balance actually take place), and complex calendars that track traditional Arabic, Islamic, and Judaic calendars. The Arrows of Time clock features a perpetual calendar, tourbillon, and moonphase, all finished to the standard of haute-horology timepieces, a rarity in clockmaking.

Unique Pieces

Konstantin Chaykin’s collection of unique pieces are watches that were developed as one-off collectors items, frequently for charity auctions such as ONLYWATCH. Unique and complicated Wristmons models, The Mars Conqueror MKI, and the unique and highly decorative Levitas Jazz model are included in this collection.

How Much Do Konstantin Chaykin Watches Cost?

His timepieces are held to the highest standard, in the same realm as other notable independent watchmakers. As such, his timepieces command prices that reflect the time, effort, expertise, and materials used. The Joker models start at $23,600 USD, and the ThinKing model achieved an auction result of 508,000 CHF in 2025. In the middle is the Joker IronMask model, with a retrograde day display, which retails for $54,000 USD.

Konstantin Chaykin Movements

Konstantin Chaykin utilizes highly finished mechanical movements in all of their timepieces. The more simple Wristmons timepieces utilize a customized La Joux-Perret G200, dubbed the K.18-24. The Classic, Interior Clocks, and highly complicated timepieces use movements manufactured by Konstantin Chaykin. All movements are hand-finished to a high degree, on the same level of other haute horlogy brands.

Konstantin Chaykin Watch Colors

Konstantin Chaykin offers an array of colors for their timepieces. The Classic collection focuses on traditional dial colors, including black, silver, and some blue. The Wristmons series is the Konstantin Chaykin home for vibrant colors. With bright yellow, blue, green, and red dials and accents, these colors make the animated face on the dial even more eye-catching. The Joker Mask and Seneca models do tone down the playful nature of these timepieces, with their metal toned dials.  Straps are also available with bright colors, both for the strap material and the accent stitching.

Konstantin Chaykin Watch Materials

Konstantin Chaykin uses materials inline with other high-end watch manufacturers. Many of the Wristmons timepieces use stainless steel, including the use of 904L steel for certain models. Some models, such as the Stargazer, use a unique Bulat steel, a unique steel alloy that has a distinctive texture and is practically scratch proof. Additionally, this steel alloy is unique to Konstantin Chaykin. Other models are available in 18k gold. The dials and movements are covered with sapphire crystals, and the straps are made of premium leather. The buckles are made to match the case material used.

Konstantin Chaykin Watch Types

Konstantin Chaykin’s watches do not fall into a traditional category. While some may appear more appropriate with formal attire, and others with casual attire, all of his timepieces are sure to make a statement. Few Konstantin Chaykin timepieces are subtle, and would likely be better categorized as varying degrees of bold haute-horology.
