Orbit Midnight Purple: Extending the Spectrum
The Orbit Midnight Purple story goes on. This time, Armin Strom takes the concept a step further. A colour deeply rooted in the history of the brand and inherited from Armin Strom himself now extends beyond the dial and into the movement itself.
The Midnight Purple story goes on. This time, Armin Strom takes the concept a step further. A colour deeply rooted in the history of the brand and inherited from Armin Strom himself now extends beyond the dial and into the movement itself. The signature midnight purple fumé dial remains at the centre of the composition, transitioning from a vivid purple core to darker edges that accentuate the depth of the architecture. For the first time, a frosted midnight purple mainplate beneath the dial amplifies the colour’s presence and strengthens the visual connection between the display and the mechanics.
Hand-polished steel hands, crafted in-house and filled with Super-LumiNova®, ensure exceptional legibility in all lighting conditions. The applied hour markers are also luminescent, while the signature numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock are crafted from solid Super-LumiNova® blocks, creating a striking visual presence after dark. Framed by a black ceramic bezel and housed in a stainless steel case, the Orbit Midnight Purple is completed by a fully integrated stainless steel bracelet, delivering the most complete expression of this distinctive colourway to date.
Powering the watch is the manufacture Calibre ASS20, developed and produced entirely in-house. Conceived around the world’s first on-demand date display on a ceramic bezel, the movement rethinks the relationship between wearer and complication, displaying the date only when requested. Activated by a pusher at 10 o’clock, the date hand moves from its neutral position to indicate the current date on the bezel and advances automatically at midnight. A second press returns it discreetly to 12 o’clock, leaving the dial free from unnecessary information. The column-wheel mechanism ensures smooth operation, while Armin Strom’s patented Equal Force Barrel delivers consistent energy and a stable 72-hour power reserve.
Visible through the sapphire crystal and caseback, the Orbit Midnight Purple reveals Armin Strom’s commitment to transparent mechanics and hand-finishing. The purple mainplate creates a distinctive visual foundation, contrasting with the rhodium-coated components and hand-finished finger bridges. Hand-polished bevels, perlage and circular graining enrich every surface, while the openworked construction highlights the interaction between colour and mechanics. The purple fumé dial and matching mainplate create a unified composition that reinforces the Orbit’s three-dimensional character. As with all Armin Strom timepieces, each watch is assembled twice to ensure both mechanical precision and finishing excellence.
Limited to 20 pieces worldwide, the Orbit Midnight Purple combines innovative mechanics and distinctive colour in one of the most recognisable expressions of the System 78 collection.
