Among the newly designed Pano editions debuting at Baselworld 2012 are three new versions ofthe PanoMaticLunar from high-end German watchmaker, Glashütte Original. The company's inhousedesigners have created a noticeably larger, cylindrical case for its mechanical timepieces, allof which come from its Glashütte manufactory. The case and a somewhat slimmer bezel combineto provide a spacious stage for a fresh, contemporary design approach.
The Pano line is distinguished by its signature asymmetric dial visuals, which the new design retainsand refines as it adapts the approach to the different models. The effect is impressive, and easilyappreciated with a glance at the new PanoMaticLunar, which presents the characteristic off-centrevisuals in a clearly sophisticated, simpler array. The hour/minute and subsidiary seconds dialsremain aligned along a vertical axis to the left of centre, while the Panorama Date and superbmoon phase display are positioned to the lower and upper right, respectively. The placement ofthe dials has been determined in accordance with the divine proportion, otherwise known as thegolden ratio, the legendary law of aesthetic harmony that has fascinated artists, musicians andarchitects throughout history. In 2012, three variations of the PanoMaticLunar present the newdesign. The red gold edition takes the lead, featuring a warm silver dial with rose gold hour, minute and seconds hands and ros_ɬ© gold hour indexes, housed in a red gold case. The strikingmoon phase display shows a gold moon and gold stars set against a deep blue night sky.
Two versions present these spectacular new visuals in a polished and satin-brushed stainless steelcase. One features a warm silver dial with silver hour indexes beneath blued steel hour, minute andseconds hands, complemented by the characteristic Panorama Date and by the moon phasedisplay showing a silver moon and stars against a dark blue night sky.
The second stainless steel edition presents the dial visuals in a striking grey setting - a rutheniumdial with applied silver (rhodium) indexes and white gold hour, minute and subsidiary secondshands. The Panorama Date display features white numerals on a grey ground, while the moonphase shows a silver moon and stars set against a silvery night sky.
The PanoMaticLunar is powered by the manufactory's superb Calibre 90-02, a self-winding 47-jewel mechanical movement with a power reserve of 42 hours. The case back's sapphire crystalprovides a clear view of the finely finished movement, including the typical Glashütte three-quarterplate with Glashütte ribbing, off-centre skeletonized 21-ct gold rotor, blued screws, and handengravedbalance cock with duplex swan neck fine adjustment. The new PanoMaticLunar editionsare fitted with Louisiana alligator straps; colours and finish vary with the models.
