Longines has come quite a long way since its establishment in 1832. Becoming a subsidiary of what is now known as the Swiss Swatch Group in 1983, its winged hourglass logo speaks of originality and is the oldest yet unchanged registered trademark today.
The Longines Spirit series links history with innovation by combining classic aviation elegance and heritage with modern aesthetics and technology. This collection of instrument watches pay tribute to the pioneering spirit of early aviators who conquered the skies.
The 42mm Longines Spirit series watch was launched in the fall of 2020 along with a Prestige edition and Chronograph edition. It encompasses many vintage cues such as a robust case, oversized crown, and large baton hands.
Outer Body of the Watch
The outer body features a round case made of stainless steel to give that cool metal feel around the wrist.
The exterior's silvery color also features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with several anti-reflective coating layers on each side. The casing incorporates a screw-in crown, too, attached to a stainless steel strap.
The stainless steel bracelet straps are a perfect blend to the 42mm solid case. One of the advantages of using stainless steel is its anti-corrosive composition compared to other watches made from iron that is prone to rust after exposure to air and moisture.
The Dial
The dial's black matte color gives it a classic look, perfectly complementing the silvered, sandblasted hands, which also have a black matte color. The dial is also available in two other color options, Grained Silver and Sunday Blue. Arabic numerals are used for the hour markers, making it easy to use and read at a glance.
If you love impressive specs, it just gets better. This watch features a Swiss Super-LumiNova photoluminescent glow, which is aluminate based, non-toxic, and non-radioactive.
This lighting system acts as a light storage battery and lasts much longer than regular tritium based lumiNova systems. You can check the time even in the darkest conditions.
The Crown
The Longines Spirit crown is made with a tiny knob on the side of the watch. The knob performs numerous functions, such as adjusting the watch's time by mechanical winding and stopping the watch from consuming excess power.
One of the crown's advantages in the Longines Spirit watch is that it is screw-down into the watch's case. This is to ensure that it's water-proof and doesn't pull off easily. It is firmly attached and made from well-polished stainless steel.
Water Resistance
Most watches from the Swiss company are usually water-resistant, but the Longines Spirit watch is very different from other production lines. It is water-proof up to 100m. You probably must be thinking about what you should do if you go swimming with this expensive watch. There is no cause for panic nor alarm because every part of the watch is completely sealed, and the crown is perfectly screwed into the case to avoid leakage of water into the watch.

The Longines Spirit L3.811.4.53.6 employs the L888.4 caliber with a monocrystalline silicon balance-spring and a COSC certified chronograph, which means it can function as a stopwatch.
It boasts an automatic self-winding mechanical movement system beating an impressive 25,200 vibrations per hour and providing 64 hours of power reserve. Furthermore, this lovely piece is built to resist water at pressures up to 10 bar at a 100m depth. It is a powerful watch for powerful individuals.
