SPEAKE MARIN PRESENTS THE NEW “RESILIENCE MIDNIGHT”, FEATURING A MESMERISING AVENTURINE DIAL. A TIMEPIECE EVOKING ASTRONOMICAL WONDERS.
With the new Resilience Midnight, unveiled to mark the Spring Equinox on March 20, 2026, Speake Marin invites us to step across the threshold between light and night. This moment, when day and night share equal measure, is captured in a poetic reflection of cosmic harmony, evoked on the wrist by the depth of the aventurine dial. Through this creation, the Swiss Maison celebrates the Spring Equinox as a moment of renewal and balance, offering a refined interpretation of one of the Maison’s most iconic codes, where aesthetics and mechanical expertise unite in a story of elegance and mastery.
Distinguished by its refined deep blue hue, the timepiece features a precious aventurine dial that recalls the mesmerising spectacle of a starry night sky. Each dial becomes a fragment of the cosmos, where countless tiny copper inclusions shimmer like distant stars, an effect known as aventurescence. Complementing this celestial depth, the polished metal case captures and reflects light at its most intense, creating a sophisticated allure.
Part of the iconic Piccadilly Collection, the Resilience Midnight is housed in the brand’s emblematic round case – a defining element since Speake Marin’s origins. With soft and enveloping lines, a polished finish and the traditional screwed lugs, it is available in grade 5 titanium and 5N red gold.
A new aesthetics emerges, while the enduring spirit of mechanical excellence remains, embodied in the in-house manufacture SMA03 self-winding movement that beats at its core.
ASTRONOMICAL INSPIRATION
The Equinox is the astronomical moment that marks the beginning of spring or autumn, when the Sun crosses the celestial equator and moves from the northern to the southern hemisphere, or vice versa. At this precise moment the Sun’s rays strike the Earth perpendicularly, creating a perfect balance between day and night, light and shadow. This is, in fact, the meaning of the word “Equinox”, derived from the Latin aequa nox, meaning “equal night (to day)”.
This fleeting celestial equilibrium inspires the design of the timepiece. Its duality is captured in the aventurine dial, where shimmering copper flecks evoke the sparkle of stars emerging from the night, capturing both night and light in a refined composition.
The Equinox also reflects Speake Marin’s core values: balanced proportions, harmonious design, and a distinctive interpretation of the art of watchmaking.
AVENTURINE DIAL: A STAR-STUDDED SKY
At the heart of the creation lies the mirror-polished aventurine glass dial, a hypnotic and captivating material that evokes a sense of wonder. Legend has it that its origins date back to the first half of the 17th century in Venice, when a Murano glassmaker accidentally - “alla ventura” - as it was said in archaic Italian - dropped iron filings into molten glass. The extraordinary shimmering effect that resulted gave rise to the name “aventurine.” This material, both fragile and luminous, requires superlative craftsmanship, with each dial becoming a unique microcosm of stars.
The process begins with the selection of the finest blocks of aventurine glass, which are chosen for their colour, translucency, and natural shimmer. These blocks are cut into thin discs using high-precision diamond saws. These discs are then shaped to the exact dimensions of the watch case and drilled in the centre to accommodate the hand pins. The aventurine slabs subsequently undergo an initial polishing process to level their surface. This is followed by a second polishing stage, which is designed to achieve the exact thickness required.
A third, final polish enhances their natural brillance. Finally, each disc made of deep blue aventurine glass is flawless and is mounted on a brass plate to form the dial. The display is equipped with indices in the form of elongated Roman numerals in a brilliant white, lending it a touch of classicism.
The distinctive hands – a double-leaf minute hand and a heart-shaped hour hand - are a direct homage to the clock of London’s Elizabeth Tower, a subtle reminder of Speake Marin’s British heritage. The outer edge of the dial features a bright white chemin de fer minute track, interrupted at 1:30 to accommodate the small seconds counter. A well-known position that is one of the brand’s signatures.

THE PICCADILLY CASE
The aventurine dial of the Resilience Midnight is protected by an anti-reflective, domed sapphire crystal and is encased in the iconic Piccadilly case.
Redesigned in 2017 by renowned Swiss designer Eric Giroud and with a polished finish, it is crafted in grade 5 titanium in both 42 mm and 38 mm diameters, as well as red gold 5N exclusively in the 38 mm case size, paired with pink gold 4N hands, ensuring an elegant fit for wrists of all sizes, for both men and women.
Its round shape is distinguished by soft, pleasant-to-the-touch lines and a caseband accentuated by slightly pronounced profiles. The signature flared and fluted crown provides a secure grip when setting the time or manually winding the watch. The shorter lugs hold a glossy, luminous midnight-blue alligator leather strap lined with orange leather to reflect the light/dark dichotomy and secured by a deployant clasp.
The sapphire crystal case back offers the owner a view of the in-house calibre, showcasing its exquisite finishing in full detail.
THE IN-HOUSE SMA03 CALIBRE
The Resilience Midnight is powered by the SMA03 automatic calibre, entirely designed and manufactured in-house at Le Cercle des Horlogers, Speake Marin’s atelier in La Chaux-de-Fonds. It features the distinctive small seconds display at 1:30, an unconventional position in watchmaking that has become a hallmark of Speake Marin timepieces. Automatic winding is ensured by an off-centred micro-rotor, fully integrated into the calibre to maintain a slim profile, and topped with the brand’s signature mirror-polished and 5N gold-plated topping tool.
Comprising 147 components, including 31 jewels, the SMA03 calibre provides power reserve of 52 hours and operates with a balance-wheel beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). The finishing, faithful to the traditions of fine watchmaking, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.
The movement, rhodium-plated black in its main components, features a circular-grained mainplate, while the bridges are decorated with 1.5 mm Côtes de Genève stripes and polished and bevelled edges perfected through the anglage technique. The engraved inscriptions in 5N red gold plating add a further touch of personalisation.
