On November 8, 1942, Operation TORCH marked a strategic turning point in North Africa. In Casablanca, the fighting was of rare intensity. Several 1,500-ton French submarines attempted to resist the American forces commanded by George S. Patton. Le Tonnant managed to escape before being scuttled off the coast of Cádiz on November 15, 1942. On November 15, 2025, exactly 83 years after its disappearance, its wreck was officially located and identified by a team of professional divers and hydrographers commissioned by ZRC, in full respect of this site, which has become a place of remembrance.
