The SLGB005 Ice Forest “Violet Dawn” draws inspiration from the frost-covered forests of Shinshu, where the first light of day casts a soft violet glow across the landscape. The dial’s crystalline texture, created through refined finishing techniques, reflects this natural scene as it gradually brightens toward the center. Against this backdrop, the silver-toned seconds hand glides smoothly, a signature of Spring Drive that mirrors the quiet passage of time.
The design follows Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 philosophy, an interpretation of the Grand Seiko Style first expressed with the 44GS in 1967. Broad, faceted hands and deeply grooved markers ensure clarity at a glance, while Zaratsu-polished and hairline finishes highlight the case’s sharp yet refined form. The 37mm case is made from Ever-Brilliant Steel, a material celebrated for its durability, corrosion resistance, and bright hue. Its bracelet is paired with a clasp featuring an 18k rose gold emblem. This clasp does not include a micro-adjustment feature.
Powering the SLGB005 is the Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2, a movement with an impressive ±20 seconds per year accuracy, earning the Ultra Fine Accuracy designation. This performance is achieved through a specially aged quartz oscillator, a low-power integrated circuit, and vacuum-sealed components that ensure long-term stability. Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the movement features frosted finishing that recalls Shinshu’s winter landscapes, with jewels that sparkle like stars above the mountains. The oscillating weight is engraved with “Spring Drive Ultra Fine Accuracy,” underscoring this achievement.
