DOXA was founded by Georges Ducommun in 1889 in the small town of Le Locle, deep in Switzerland’s cradle of Swiss watchmaking: the Jura Mountains. Though it was acquired by the Jenny family in 1997, Doxa continues to innovate and create high-quality timepieces as an independent Swiss watchmaker.

About DOXA Sub 200 Watches

Vintage-styled watches never entirely go out of style, and in the past ten years, the watch industry as a whole has embraced watches that are evolutionary and closely inspired by mid-twentieth-century designs. DOXA has a penchant for releasing watches that closely resemble past offerings, and the DOXA Sub 200 is no exception.

With its beads-of-rice bracelet, domed sapphire crystal, and vintage-styled lume (on certain models), the DOXA Sub 200’s DNA pays homage to the history of the brand while utilizing modern materials for a rugged and purpose-built timepiece.

For those seeking an even stronger connection to the brand’s past, DOXA also offers the Sub 200T, with its iconic tonneau-shaped case. This case is considered a hallmark of DOXA’s design because it has been a prominent and recognizable feature of the brand's dive watches since its introduction in the 1960s. No matter which DOXA piques your interest, the full range offers unparalleled quality for the price.

DOXA Sub 200 History

Originally released in 1967, DOXA’s initial dive model was part of the iconic DOXA Sub series, which is well-known for its robust design and association with professional diving. Doxa consulted with divers, including Jacques Cousteau, then chairman of U.S. Divers, to create a fitting timepiece for both professional and commercial use.

The early models are recognized for their contribution to the popularity of dive watches during that era. Its innovative features quickly set the standard for professional divers as well. With water resistance up to 30 bar (around 300 meters), it was the first watch to include a unidirectional bezel with a dual scale for depth and dive time, allowing divers to calculate a safe ascent without decompression stops.

Unveiled at Baselworld 2019, the Sub 200 continues to be a durable and dynamic entry-lever diver for the brand. As is often (but not always) the case with Doxa nomenclature, the model number designates the water resistance rating—200 meters in this case.

How Much Do DOXA Sub 200 Watches Cost?

A high-quality dive watch from an independent Swiss watchmaker often costs many times the price of the DOXA Sub 200. Regardless of color or strap option, as the DOXA Sub 200 is available on a rubber strap or stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet, the DOXA Sub 200 costs just over $1,000, an unprecedented value for the money!

What’s Unique About DOXA Sub 200 Watches?

Not many manufacturers offer an orange or yellow watch. The DOXA Sub 200 is unique because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Yes, this is a purpose-built watch that can be taken 600 feet into the Ocean, but at the same time, it can also be used as a weekend companion or for desk diving duties. By offering whimsical and fun colors, DOXA suggests a reminder that time is a fleeting thing—we shouldn’t be averse to connecting with our childhood and playing with colors and form; that’s precisely what DOXA does with its Sub 200 collection.

DOXA Sub 200 Movements

Inside the Sub 200 is the trusty ETA 2824-2 movement, a Swiss-made workhorse. This movement operates at 28,800 beats per hour, giving the seconds hand a smooth, sweeping motion. It has hacking seconds for precise time setting and can be hand-wound to restart the watch after it's been idle. Although Doxa has added some of its own decoration, it's hidden behind the solid stainless steel case back. The movement also includes a numerical date feature at the 3 o'clock position. Like the rest of the watch, the movement is Swiss-made and provides a 38-hour power reserve.

DOXA Sub 200 Watch Colors

One of the penchants of DOXA, as a watchmaker, is to play with colors to create a wide range of “flavors.” Most watchmakers offer a black, blue, and maybe an additional color dial for each collection, but DOXA offers seven unique colors in the Sub 200 range: black, white with a black bezel, white with a white bezel, turquoise, navy blue, orange, and yellow. No matter what the occasion, DOXA offers a suitable watch to meet the style and preferences of any client!

DOXA Sub 200 Watch Materials

The DOXA Sub 200 collection is a professional grade and dive-ready timepiece, which means that great care has gone into the materials used to craft the watches. DOXA uses stainless steel for the cases, black sapphire inserts for the bezels, sapphire crystal for the glass, and rubber or stainless steel for the bracelets. DOXA certainly didn’t cut any corners in creating this affordable yet quality timepiece.

Caring for Your DOXA Sub 200 Watch

Caring for a luxury timepiece requires attentiveness in order to preserve its beauty and functionality. Regularly clean the case and strap with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent scratches and foreign debris. Avoid exposing the watch to extreme shocks and magnetic fields, as this can negatively impact the timekeeping. Store your watch in a watch box or pouch, protecting it from dust and humidity. Finally, be sure to follow all service intervals recommended by the manufacturer.

Be at ease, because all DOXA watches come with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, ensuring headache-free ownership. Be sure to follow all recommendations in the owner’s manual, but if an issue does arrive, you can also make use of Exquisite Timepieces authorized watch service and repair.
