DESIGN INSPIRATION
When launching the new Epic X collection in 2016, Jacob & Co. ventured into a new direction, with new shapes, new material and a new frame of mind. The inspiration of the design came from the letter X which symbolizes something unknown, mysterious and appealing which was the energy of the brand at the time.
Epic X Skeleton is the combination of a staple of watchmaking, the skeleton watch, and the radical design approach of Jacob & Co. As a result, Epic X Skeleton bridges the inside and the outside, the movement and the 44-mm case. The X shape starts at the lugs, goes on to the movement's vertical bridges and finishes on the other pair of lugs. Transparency, structure, innovation, three of Jacob & Co.'s design guidelines are gathered in Epic X Skeleton.
DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Epic X Skeleton is a case and a movement coming together as one. Designing Epic X Skeleton required a different frame of mind, where everything is ruled by the X, while letting the light in.
The four lugs on Epic X Skeleton are unique. Their shape, their inclination, their edges are a true Epic X Skeleton signature. They are a continuation of the exclusive skeleton movement. It is structured around two vertical bridges and the framing of a vast amount of void.
THE COMPLICATIONS & FEATURES
Epic X Skeleton is ruled by design and so is caliber JCAM45. Functionally, it is an hour and minute movement. In spirit, its skeleton structure follows the X rule. It is light, technical and revolves entirely around its shape.
THE SKELETON MOVEMENT
Caliber JCAM45 was specifically developed for Epic X Skeleton. It offers maximum transparency thanks to its skeletonized form. All the components that should be full are hollowed out. Instead of a mainplate, the entire movement is hanging on the two vertical bridges. Every visible component has a double function : technical and aesthetic. The structure becomes the shape, the design and the identity of Epic X Skeleton.
THE FINISHINGS
Caliber JCAM45 receives surface finishings that serve its skeleton structure. In the absence of a flat surface, the plating color of the gears and the bridges becomes essential. The beveling of the components is everywhere, enhancing the structure, revealing it with brilliant and matte edges.
