The timepieces from the German watch manufacturer offer classically distinct and artful design features along with an underlying mechanical sophistication. Glashütte Original Senator Collection is a traditional watch company that is involved in the world of film. Therefore, watches from the company have gladly accompanied celebrities like Daniel Brühl and Chris Hemsworth to events such as the Zurich Film Festival.
Glashütte Original is an enthusiast of the film as it is the official partner of the international Film Festival in Berlin. Meanwhile, the Berlin Film Festival also serves as a platform for Glashütte Original. The Senator observer was presented at the Berlin Film Festival – an attractive timepiece with a 44-millimeter stainless steel case. The Berlin Film Festival and Glashütte Original seem to complement one another perfectly. Not surprisingly, Glashütte Original adorns the wrists of many actors and directors.

The Glashütte Original Senator - German craftsmanship around the wrist

The Glashütte Original Senator Collection stands out for its classic yet highly distinctive design. The timepieces are handcrafted and abide by the strictest quality standards applicable down to the slightest of details. a majority of Glashütte Original watches are internally produced up to 95%. Such a high level of vertical integration is rarely seen in the watchmaking industry, making Glashütte original and exception to the rule.

The Senator collection offers a wide range of elegant men’s watches that are available with different complications. The timepieces are presented in both square and round forms along with a wide selection of bracelets and dials. The Senator watch spectrum ranges from the vintage Sixties and Seventies series to variants with sophisticated lunar displays and perpetual calendars.

Glashütte original, along with a handful of names such as A.Lange & Söhne, Tutima or Nomos, is symbolic of the rebirth of German fine watchmaking. its modern history began in 1994 when Heinz W. Pfeifer bought Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH to then establish the Glashütte Original brand. its origins, however, go back much further, to the very beginning of watchmaking in Saxony, in the middle of the nineteenth century. The brand, which joined Swatch Group in 2000, has brought manufacturing operations under its one roof, from developing movements to final assembly. its production is characteristic of the region's particular style of watchmaking, whether in the architecture of its movements or the overall aesthetic refinement.

The history of Glashütte Original Senator Collection merges with the wider history of watchmaking in the Saxony region. When in 1949 the German Democratic Republic was established, all watch production was brought together into a State-owned enterprise. Technical and design innovation continued nonetheless; indeed, the brand has revived certain models from the past for its 20th Century Vintage collection. a page was turned with the fall оf the Berlin Wall in 1989. Taking its name from an inscription once added to certain timepieces as a guarantee of authenticity and provenance, Glashütte original patiently built up its collections. Since then it has developed a number of original movements, certain of which feature highly practical and refined functions. The mechanical alarm of the Senator Diary, for example, can be programmed up to 30 days in advance. The Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon offers, among other complications, a mechanism which memorises all 37 time zones to track time around the world. The watches that comprise the Senator Sixties and Seventies collections are reminiscent of two of the most exciting fashion decades of the 20th century. Both watch lines embody a respective decade and impress with watchmaking finesse.

The 1960s were an inspiring time. among many other influences were revolts against social norms and a special 1969 Woodstock way of life. Social and political changes of the times definitely played a role in the particular fashions inclinations and preferences. The watches of the Senator Sixties line convince with a clever retro-modern style. The Glashütte original Senator Collection (Ref. 1-39-52-04-02-04) is manufactured with a 39-millimeter casing, a domed sapphire crystal, and a black Louisiana alligator leather strap.
The 1970s were also memorable in terms of art and design. The characteristic style of the decade embraces earth tones, streamlined forms, and aerodynamic elements. The Seventies collection was inspired by these fundamentals and is therefore comprised of a square case with rounded corners. The Seventies Panorama Date is created with three different dial colors and can be paired with a Louisiana alligator leather strap in black, blue and grey, or alternatively, with a sporty rubber strap decorated with intricate engravings.

What is special about the Glashütte Original Senator Collection?

Glashütte Original Senator Collection has been around for over a century and has been coined in making “the only watch that matters.” Providing reliable and durable timepieces, Glashütte Original Senator Collection is probably the most eminent luxury watch brand in the world. We’ve rounded up a few little known facts about this iconic company.

All of Glashütte Original Senator Collection’s watches are handmade

it takes considerable time to make just one Glashütte Original Senator Collection watch. every watch is painstakingly made by hand in Germany. Glashütte Original Senator Collection watches are given all the attention and dedication to ensure they meet the coveted brand’s strict standards. Virtually everything is made from base materials in-house. once all the parts for a Glashütte Original Senator Collection watch are completed, they are then mostly hand-assembled and independently tested. The quality assurance process is rather intense.

Every single Glashütte original Senator Collection is pressure-tested before leaving the manufacturer

Being at the forefront of water resistant technology involves a multitude of steps. every Glashütte original Senator Collection is placed in a sensitive air-pressure chamber to determine if there are any air leaks in the case. if a medical-grade optical sensor finds any condensation or water infiltration, the watch is scrapped.

Glashütte original Senator Collection uses the most expensive stainless steel (904L Steel)

other high-end brands use a stainless steel grade (known as 316L) in their designs, but 904L is exclusive to Glashütte original Senator Collection. The steel is much more expensive, and said to be resistant to rust, corrosion, and pitting — a real problem for salt water divers.

Because they control the production and machining of their gold, they are able to strictly ensure not only quality but look of these extraordinary materials. Glashütte original Senator Collection is the only watchmaker that makes their own gold or even has a real foundry in-house.

Nobody knows what the phrase ‘Glashütte original Senator’ actually means

Watchmakers assume the name comes from the French term horlogerie exquise, meaning exquisite clockwork. But Glashütte original Senator Collection founder Hans Wilsdorf admitted the name Glashütte original Senator Collection was picked because he wanted a word that was short and looked good on a watch face, and could be pronounced in any language. He also thought that the name sounded like the noise a watch made when іt was being wound.

Glashütte original Senator Collection might be a luxury Swiss company, but it originated in Germany

The company started out assembling watches, not making them. Glashütte original, along with a handful of names such as A.Lange & Söhne, Tutima or Nomos, is symbolic of the rebirth of German fine watchmaking. its modern history began in 1994 when Heinz W. on their Roman numeral dials, Glashütte original Senator Collection still use iiii rather than iV
iiii is known as the “Watchmaker’s four,” and is a matter of aesthetics and visual symmetrical balance.

The Complication: all the time in the world

The displays оf the Senator Cosmopolite have been designed for easy legibility, but the mechanism behind them is complex. in developing it, the Glashütte engineers have enriched the product line with a complication as ambitious as it is contemporary – while placing particular emphasis on ease of use.
With the Senator Cosmopolite one can set the time in two time zones at once, without the wearer having to think twice about it. a time zone ring offers a selection of the 36 world time zones currently in use. each of them is displayed using an official iaTa location code representing an international airport in the relevant time zone. Not all time zones are offset from the Greenwich Mean Time reference time in intervals of one hour: for this reason, the 24 time zones that do show a full-hour deviation are indicated using a black iaTa code; a further nine time zones with half-hour offsets are shown in blue, and the remaining three iaTa codes appear in red. The two windows at 8 o'clock allow the wearer to set summer and standard time (Daylight Saving Time – DST / Standard Time – STD); an easily read Day/Night indicator for both home and destination offers additional orientation. any necessary adjustments of the date while traveling forwards or back in time are handled by the movement's intricate mechanics.
